It is there, in the viscera, the inner ear and the sensory receptors of fingers, feet and buttocks that we actually drive or ride. Our conscious, thinking brains are only needed to read the road signs.

This is what handling is really about in the broader sense; the ability of the machine to feed information back to our receiving apparatus so that we can act minutely on it.

The higher the fidelity of the feedback, the more precisely we can use it.

I am therefore bored to death with people telling me we should adopt thumb joysticks and buttons for driving, in the style of PlayStation. It’s absolute nonsense, because the interface will never be good enough.
